Celtic Woman started in 2004 as an all-female ensemble that plays a wide range of celtic music including everthing from traditional Celtic tunes to modern songs. In 2010 a total of five albums have been released under the name “Celtic Woman”: Celtic Woman, Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration, Celtic Woman: A New Journey, Celtic Woman: The Greatest Journey, and Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart. The group has participated in several world tours. Musical albums by Celtic Woman have sold over 50 million records worldwide, making it one of the most successful musical acts in the world.
The foundation for Celtic music’s success was built by tapping into the success of musicians like Enya and Clannad, combined with Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. Celtic Woman is considered “Riverdance for the voice.”
